That evening, Emma brought her haul of fresh fish back to Isa, who started teaching her how to cook the first using spells.

Isa was patient, and by the end, Emma could start a fire just by saying the spell words. They’d even gathered an audience of club members who clapped the first time Emma lit the fire by chanting the words.

Rhett watched from a distance as she put the cooked fish on plates and handed it out to the Fae who were waiting.

They all sat with her, eating and talking, and anyone who didn’t know she was human would never have guessed.

The following day, it would be time to pack up and leave Colorado. They never stayed in one place for more than a month or two. They could avoid detection by humans with no problem. Probably indefinitely, but eventually they would be detected by another shifter, a witch, or a wizard, and that could become a very big problem.

Some of his members needed to stay concealed within their group. Some of them had fled very dangerous covens, who were likely still pursuing them relentlessly.

They’d had several near misses. Two years ago, Valentina’s former clan had tried to capture while she was in human form in a town in Vermont. After that, she’d started shifting back even more infrequently.

Last year, they’d had a wizard held hostage by his former coven. Rhett had taken the club to battle over that—he would never let any of their people be taken. He would go to war for any of their members that were in danger.

They’d prevailed in the battle, but it reinforced the fact that they always needed to keep moving and prevent being detected in the first place.

But he was more than okay with being on the move. In fact, the riding part was the part he loved the most. The feel of the motorcycle rumbling beneath him, and knowing all of his crew were lined up in front of him on the open road, was Rhett’s favorite part.

Even though he could fly, there was nothing like feeling the powerful metal machine under his control. Just as his wings were an extension of him, so was his motorcycle. Each time he rode, the motorcycle became a part of him.

The motorcycle club part had started as a cover, many years ago. It was a way for all of them to blend in, and hide in plain sight, when they didn’t have enough magic users to conceal them with a spell.

People would turn and look at a motorcycle club, all of them riding together. But they didn’t notice anything beyond the hum of the engines or the shiny metal of the bike. Sometimes the humans admired the bikes, sometimes they scorned them, and sometimes they were scared.

But the bikes were always what was seen. The bikes were what was visible. But the people watching never remembered the individuals who were riding those bikes—they were faceless and unimportant.

And they could all ride in public, even when they weren’t hidden behind a glamor or a spell, so they could be safe in their anonymity.
